Children’s toys are often made of materials that do not survive well in the ground. But even with only part of an object we can still learn a great deal.
Only the head, one foot and one hand remains of the medieval puppet below. The body and limbs were probably made of organic material, such as wood, that did not survive. The holes through the head, hand and foot show it was a puppet.
Eventually the body of the modern doll may also decay. What could future archaeologists tell from looking at what remains?
